FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is the WPL a non-contact hockey league?
A: Yes. The WPL is non-contact. It's the best Beer League or recreational hockey league in the Peace Region.
Q: What's included with the fees?
A: 2 Refs and 1 scorekeeper. We also take all the crap out of configuring a schedule. We line up all your games and provide you a schedule for your entire season.
Q: How many game will we expect to play?
A: You can expect anywhere between 24-30 games per season depending on available ice times and costs.
Q: Do you have a summer Draft League in Grand Prairie?
A: Yes we do. The Grande Prairie Summer Draft League starts May and ends in August. Cost is roughly $200 to play for the season.
Q: Can players under 18 yrs of age play?
A: Yes. They will require a Parent or guardian to sign their waiver to be able to participate.
Q: Is the league Co-Ed?
A: Yes it is. All of our divisions are co-ed.
Q: When does the season start?
A: Late September or Early October depending on ice availability.
Q: Can I play on multiple teams?
A: Yes. You can play on as many teams as you want throughout the regular season. However you can only play for 2 teams in playoffs and they must be in different divisions. Check out the league rules HERE for more details.
Q: When does the deposit have to be paid by?
A: Upon Registration you are required to pay a $500 team deposit to hold a spot for the upcoming season. This deposit will go towards your team fees once the invoice is created.
Q: when do I have to have my full fees paid up by?
A: Fees must be paid in full by the realignment time. This is around the 10 game mark or the 2nd week of December. If you do not clear up the balance your team will be removed from the schedule IF a payment arrangement isn't established with the league.
Q: If I don't have a team can I still play in the league?
A: Yes. You can sign up on to our Spare Player List HERE. If you are looking to find a team, you can find the Facebook page HERE! It's a great way to connect with local teams and players to find a team.
Q: Do we need home and away sweaters?
A: Yes. As of the 2025 season, teams are required to have a home and an away jersey to be able to play. Matching socks are optional.
Q: WHat rink do you play out of?
A: We currently have all of our Ice booked at the County Sportsplex in Clairmont. The Bonnetts Energy Centre, Dave Barr and the Coke Cola Center in Grande Prairie.
